Stirrings...
Hello, dear readers...
Over the past two years I often wondered if this post would ever happen. Much of the time it seemed unlikely, and yet here we are again.
Spring is coming -- sooner in some regions than others, but it IS coming. Sap is rising, days are longer, and the earliest crocuses are testing the air with the points of their fresh, green leaves.
Perhaps not-so-surprisingly, such stirrings aren't limited to Nature. Take "Spring Cleaning," for example, a phenomenon reflecting our desire to clear out the clutter of winter's nesting and start anew...
Well, fresh starts aren't limited to homes and gardens, are they? For me, the first month of 2013 brought some interesting dreams (Thank you, Denise, for helping me interpret them!), new ideas, buds of future plans, and a stirring of creative energy.
Where will all this lead? I'm not quite sure. But I hope you'll check back and join me on the journey.
PS. No cliches were harmed in the writing of this post ;)

Give in to your (summer-knitting) cravings.
At the curve-loving Empire waist and square neckline, brightly-colored, crocheted grannies spice things up. The pattern also features details such as bust darts, seed stitch edging, side shaping, slight gathering at waistband
Flower Child looks great on its own, and also shines when layered over a long-sleeved tee. It's a quick knit (with a bit of easy crochet tossed in for fun) that's certain to satisfy even the strongest cravings for warm-weather knits.
You can find my Flower Child pattern in Yarn Forward magazine #29 (October 2010).
Give in to your (summer-knitting) cravings.

A Thousand Pounds of Mmmmmm....

That's what it took to create this incredible sculpture, which was on display at the 95th Annual Pennsylvania Farm Show last week. This tableau was quite à propos, when you consider that the state ranks second nationally in butter production.
Sculptor Jim Victor, of Conshohocken (in Montgomery Co., just outside Philly), turned a half-ton of coulda-been-frosting into this gravity-defying wonder. The sculpture depicts a boy ready to throw a football to an NFL player (team unspecified) while a farmer hands out milk to three kids on a jungle gym.
Sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program, the sculpture was crafted from butter donated by Land O' Lakes in Carlisle, Pa. (in case you were wondering). The good news? All of the butter used will be converted into biofuel now that the Farm Show has ended.
Honestly, this was an amazing feat of engineering -- and definitely not something you see every day.If you live within driving distance of Harrisburg, Pa., I highly recommend the farm show for a day of great food, cooking demos, sweet farm animals, and a ton of browsable vendor booths. (Yes, there were a few fiber-related booths.) That's more fun than most people are allowed to have in January...and it's extremely affordable!
Stay tuned to Knit*Six in the next couple of months. I'll be posting some book reviews AND I'll be giving these books away to my lovely readers!

Wishes
Blizzard Approach with Ice Halo and Sun Dog [(c) 2009, Hannah Six]The Winter Solstice has passed--complete with full moon and full lunar eclipse--and LIGHT is returning once again.
This difficult (for me and many others I know) year is drawing to a close, and a new one will soon begin. I hope it will bring peace, light, and (yes) love. Whatever it brings, though, we'll celebrate the coming days together.
Wishing all of you peace, good health, and joy in the New Year.

Today: Quilt Show in Maryland!!!
Kensington (MD) Armory
Friday, December 3 - Saturday, December 4
In even years, the NeedleChasers sponsor a quilt show to exhibit members' work to the local community. Proceeds from the quilt show support the activities of the NeedleChasers, including their many service activities for local community organizations. For more information about the NeedleChasers' service projects, click here.
The NeedleChasers' 2010 QUILT SHOW will be held on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 3, and SATURDAY, December 4 at the Kensington Armory, in Kensington, MD. Watch this page for developing information.
Members: Click here for Instructions & Forms to enter your Quilt in the Show
The theme of the 2010 show is "New Directions: Past to the Present". Here's what we'll have for you at the show:
OVER 200 QUILTS, MADE BY THE NEEDLECHASERS. Come see bed quilts of all sizes, wall hangings, clothing and accessories, all made by the talented NeedleChasers! You'll also get to view many "challenge quilts" based on "Trying Something New" either a technique you have not done before or a new way of doing what you generally do. Maximum size is a circumference of 96" (approximately 2 feet by 2 feet, but any shape you want).
A TERRIFIC RAFFLE QUILT! could be the centerpiece of one of your bedrooms if you hold the winning ticket! The quilt design will be an uneven pieced log cabin. A new twist on a traditional block! This queen size, multi-colored contemporary quilt is rooted in a traditional block.
AN ARTISAN BOUTIQUE. Do your holiday shopping early! This is the place where you can purchase beautiful hand-sewn items, including small stuffed animals and other children's toys; baby quilts; quilted placemats, aprons, and potholders; and "art to wear", such as purses, tote bags, scarves, and jewelry. Lots of holiday items, including fabric ornaments, table runners, tree skirts, and placemats.
A SILENT AUCTION. Your chance to bid on some terrific quilts and other items made or provided by members of the NeedleChasers.
A "CALICO ELEPHANT" FOR QUILTERS AND OTHER SEWERS. Who doesn't need more quilt books, quilt magazines, fabric, and sewing notions -- and at bargain prices?! Come early for the best selection.
FAMILY-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES. The show offers a great opportunity for kids to learn about quilting and fiber arts. Be sure to stop by the demonstration area, where children can read books about quilting and work on make-and-take quilting projects designed for young sewers.
QUILTING DEMONSTRATIONS. Would you like to learn how quilts are made and watch experienced quilters demonstrate piecing, appliqué, and other quilting techniques? Come to the show at almost any time to see a demonstration!
